Memo privacy policy

Who provides Memo?
Memo is provided by Gerardus Johannes Klaassen, operating as Portfx (portfx.app). For privacy questions, email memo@portfx.app.
Your photo book on your device
Memo is a personal digital photo book. No Memo account is required. The current app has no advertising and includes no analytics or tracking service of its own.
Your original photos and videos remain in the Photos app. Memo stores the information needed to display your photo book on your device, including references to photos and albums, titles, descriptions, section headings, favourites and display preferences. If you choose to enter your date of birth, Memo uses it to show your age alongside moments.
Memo does not use its own server to receive or store your photo book.
Access to Photos
Memo requests full access to your photo library to work with your chosen folder and albums. At your request, Memo can create albums, change names and order, and add or remove photos from albums. Removing a photo from a moment does not delete the original from your photo library.
Memo can read dates, dimensions, media types and location metadata where available. Dates help organise your moments; location metadata supports the country overview and maps. Memo uses locations already recorded in photos, not continuous tracking of your current location.
You can manage photo access in iOS Settings. Album features cannot work fully without the required access.
Apple services and the internet
Your photos may be stored in iCloud, depending on your Apple settings. They are retrieved through Apple’s Photos services. Maps and place-name lookups use Apple MapKit, so requests may be sent to Apple. These services are also subject to Apple’s privacy policy.
Your iPhone backup may include app data, depending on your device and backup settings. Memo does not control those system settings.
Offline storage, exports and sharing
If you enable offline storage, Memo keeps local copies of selected images at your chosen quality. It may also keep small local previews to display your photo book.
When exporting a backup of your words and preferences, you choose its destination. If you select a cloud service or another app, that service’s privacy terms also apply. The same applies when you share photos with another app through the share sheet.
Keeping and deleting your photo book
Your photo book data remains locally available while you use it. Memo may retain text belonging to missing albums or photos in its deleted-moments area so you can restore or remove it yourself. Original photos and albums in Photos, and files you have exported, exist separately from your Memo installation.
Deleting the app normally removes its local app data through iOS. Also check device backups and exported files if you want to remove every copy. Offloading an app in iOS is different from deleting the app and its data.
When you contact us
If you email support, we receive your email address and the information you choose to send. We use your name, if supplied, your email address, message and attachments to answer your question and resolve problems with Memo. For support related to your purchase, the legal basis is performance of our agreement. For other enquiries, it is our legitimate interest in responding to your message. You do not need to share access to your photo library to get support.
The memo@portfx.app mailbox is hosted by TransIP. We keep correspondence while handling your request and for as long as needed to resolve a remaining issue or dispute. We delete it when it is no longer needed for those purposes. Where a legal retention requirement applies, we retain the relevant information for that period. We do not use support messages for advertising.

Questions and your rights
For questions about information we have received, such as a support message, email memo@portfx.app. Depending on the processing, you can request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing relies on consent, you can withdraw that consent. We do not use your data for decisions based solely on automated processing that have legal effects on you.
You can also complain to your data protection authority. In the Netherlands, this is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
